HI, I'M JESSICA KELLEY

Emmy-Winning Visual Storyteller

WHAT I DO

I've been a visual storyteller for over ten years.

I specialize in a range of genres from short news pieces, to cinematic documentaries, live televised events, and formatted series - all aimed toward modern viewers inside the digital media landscape whose attention is always shifting...and fast.

CURRENTLY

I've spent the majority of my career at Newsday where I lead the strategic vision and operations for video production, consistently delivering stories that serve as the company's top subscriber retention product.

In 2017, I was asked to re-envision our food department's print content into a visual medium. By doing so, I have grown video views 36% and tripled time on site and apps.

A recent poll asking viewers to rate the show resulted in the highest positive rating the website has received on any content item in its history.

MORE THAN JUST VIDEO

I've been nominated for Best Director and won twelve New York Emmys in a variety of categories. My films have been screened at multiple film festivals, even winning two international awards.

However, knowing my way around traditional visual components is simply one of my strengths. My skillset goes even deeper.

I am an entrepreneurial leader who can report, write stories that unfold with a plot which includes complicated, three-dimensional characters, and edit video on small budgets with tight deadlines - all while evaluating ROI, showcasing UX design in the delivery, and publishing with SEO programming in mind.

WHERE I'M GOING

These are the best times to be a storyteller - you have so many ways to experiment with storytelling because there are so many different platforms to explore.

I'm currently searching for a company that celebrates narrative storytelling in every new and exciting approach possible. The ideal organization values critical thinkers, challenging them to be risk-takers, then releases them into the digital media landscape with the freedom to be curious, make mistakes, but, most importantly, learn how to reinvent visual storytelling for future generations.

UM...DID WE JUST BECOME BEST FRIENDS?

If you love dogs, quoting Seinfeld, salt & vinegar chips, and 90's hip hop...we're gonna get along just fine.

*Bonus points if you're a Buckeye

PEOPLE I'VE WORKED WITH

Kim Como, Newsday Communications Director

From the very beginning of the Feed Me series, Jessica took on whatever role was needed (booker, location scout, production assistant, etc.) to get the show wrapped up and off to the editors to meet production deadlines.  However, her dedication does not end when the show goes into post-production.  Jess is an incredible liaison between multiple departments, making sure everyone’s needs are not only covered but met.  She knows the importance of keeping everyone in the organization on the same page.  With every chef, restaurant or establishment that Feed Me visits in the community, Jess also grows her role as an ambassador for Newsday; and it’s one she does quite well.  She has continually gone above and beyond her job description, showing her complete passion for the overall project.  She’s always thinking of unique ways we can “serve” Feed Me to a wider audience and get people to “eat it up."
